DPA is the third omega-3 that you’ve probably never heard of. It’s only found in a few places on earth: seal oil, mother’s milk, and certain types of algal oil (like Freshfield’s!)
DPA is an elongated version of EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and is arguably more important than EPA — formerly thought to be the “king” of anti-inflammatory essential fatty acids. Laboratory studies show that DPA and EPA are readily converted into each other in the liver, so DPA serves as a precursor for EPA. Not only is this why it is more important to have DPA in your supplement over EPA, DPA is 10X MORE EFFICIENT THAN EPA.
